Betty A. DeVault, 92, of Newton, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Nelson Manor. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to the Ira Community Center or in Betty’s name may be left at the funeral home.
Betty, the daughter of Leroy and Ethel (Miller) Bucklin, was born July 28, 1924, in rural Jasper County. Betty was united in marriage with August DeVault Sept. 21, 1940, in Des Moines. They made their home in Oakland Acres and Newberg, before moving to Newton. Betty was a farmer’s wife and a homemaker. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Home Extension and enjoyed gardening.
Those left to honor Betty’s memory are her son, Darrell (Ellen) DeVault of Newton; granddaughters, Amy DeVault (Jim Dietz) of Waterloo, Ill., Sara (Dale) Meyer of Wentzville, Mo., Wendy DeVault of Germany and Joy (Mike) McCole of Defiance, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Zach) Ulrich, Andrew Straub, Matthew Straub, Sean Meyer, Macy Meyer, Emily McCole, Kevin McCole and Isabel McCole; her siblings, Max (Vela) Bucklin of Ira, Dennis Bucklin of Baxter, LaVeda Weaver of Denver, Colo., and Caroline Kay Jones of California; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, August DeVault.
