No voter ID

At our local legislative forum with Rep. Wes Breckenridge, I was dismayed to learn that there are so many deep budget cuts that will negatively affect us here in Iowa, particularly in mental health, childcare, social services and nursing home inspections.

Yet, at the same time, we seem to have three-quarters of $1 million available to fund “voter IDs” under the new voter ID law, just because someone thinks one of us might be planning to commit voter fraud in the next election. Never mind there really isn’t any voter fraud in Iowa.

This new law is totally unnecessary; we can’t afford it either. The net result will be a hardship, especially for the elderly, disabled, minorities, and low-income Iowans who will be less likely to be able to meet the new voter id. requirements.

To me this smacks of voter suppression any way you look at it and a skunk is still a skunk. This all stinks!
