James E. Maxwell, 70, of rural Collins, died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at his home. A funeral service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial was at Ashton Chapel Cemetery in rural Mingo. Memorials to the Ashton Chapel Cemetery may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. James Everett Maxwell, the son of Leon and Marjorie Faidley Maxwell, was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Des Moines. He was a 1965 graduate of Collins High School in Collins, and he served his countryin the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam War.
On Dec. 29, 1967, James was united in marriage with Marta W. Klein in Darmstadt, Germany. Following Marta’s death in 2008, James was united in marriage with Cynthia S. Gabbert Aug. 28, 2010, at the Ashton Chapel in rural Mingo. He worked at John Deere as a sheet metal fabricator, retiring in 2002. James was a member of the Ashton Chapel Church. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking, carpentry and old tractors, especially anything John Deere. James was a devoted and caring husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.
Those left to cherish James’ memory are his wife, Cynthia of Collins; children, Eric (Cheryl) Maxwell of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Denise M. (Gary) Walker of Cumming, Ga; his two granddaughters, Brittney A. Maxwell of Baldwinsville, N.Y.. and Ashlea N. Maxwell of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; his two step-grandchildren, Kiel C. Walker of Lincoln, Neb., and Rosanne R. (Casper) Brixius of Lincoln, Neb.; brother, Gerald (Mary) Maxwell of Collins; and his nephews, Richard (Meredith) Maxwell, Lyle (Stacey) Maxwell and Chad (Jennifer) Maxwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Marta in 2008.
