Baxter Ever Ready Club

Thirteen members of the Baxter Ever Ready Club met April 19 at the community center. Janice Schmidt, vice president, opened the meeting leading the group in the Lord’s Prayer. Each member answered roll call by reading an unusual news item.

The treasurer’s report was given by Kathy Grant. There was no new business.

Eileen Gauch provided entertainment and Pastor Melissa Sternhagen furnished snacks. Jo Schroeder will host the next meeting May 17. Each member is to bring their baby picture for roll call.

Baxter Garden Club

The Baxter Garden Club met May 1 at the care center to assemble May baskets which were given to the residents.

Macy Lisk called the meeting to order. Eight members and one guest answered roll call, Memories of May Day.

Secretary and treasurer reports were read and approved.

Announcements were garden tours to be held locally and in Omaha.

Watering schedule for the planters were discussed. Macy thanked everyone who cleaned the flower beds.

Members voted to not have the flower show during Fun Days this year.

Betty Nikkel reported on district news from the president’s meeting.

The district meeting will be June 5 in Indianola. Members signed up for morning refreshments.

Members are to meet at city hall at 9 a.m. May 13 to plant the planters.

National Garden Club week is June 4-11. We will have a fundraiser with a chair.

The next meeting will be June 5. Jo Ellen Cross will give a program on bees.

Snacks were served by Claire Hammer.

Red Hat Mineral Belles

The Red Hat Mineral Belles gathered May 10 at Applebees in Altoona. Jean Wallace was hostess. The next gathering will be June 14 at The Tulip Tea Room in Pella with Virginia Hunter as hostess.

Those enjoying the delicious food and visiting were Rosalee Sutton, Norma Jean Warnock, Bette Davis, Mieko Williams, Marilyn Rhone, Aretta Franz, Shirley Williams, Agnes Pease and hostess Jean Wallace.
