Colfax Historical Society

The June 20 meeting of the Colfax Historical Society was called to order by president Kevin Williams at 7:04 p.m. Those present were Randy Marchant, BJ and Kevin Williams, Don and Joyce Jessen, Rebecca Evans, Cynthia Sapp, Aaron Bartholmey, Bill Hansen, Stan Daft, Larry Hurto, Larry Daft and Beth Wheeler. Two guests, Joe and Caitlyn Otto. Minutes were read and approved. Treasurer’s report was presented and approved.

Joe Otto spoke on the Red Bridge. It was added to the National Historical Register in 1995. The bridge was built in 1882. The flood of 1947 washed out the bank and a 92 foot truss was added. It will cost more than $500,000 to move the bridge to Colfax’s Quarry Park. It was a very informative talk and well received.

Kevin got the gift shop decal up and it looks very nice. Randy passed around a copy of what the tractor show poster will look like. Nothing on the tea. Larry D. talked about the dinner theater. Rebecca said she had concerns since no meeting had been held. Kevin reported on the Clean Up Day. Now we need a Clean Up Day.

Larry H. reported on the Preserve Iowa Summit. The summit chose the Jasper County and Newton presentation “A Look of Efforts in Newton and Jasper County” which Larry H. gave.

Next meeting is at 7 p.m. July 24. Every one is welcome to come. It was moved and seconded to adjourn at 8:55 p.m.
