Tigerhawk girls open season with loss to East Marshall

LE GRAND — The Colfax-Mingo girls’ basketball team began its season with a 58-49 loss to East Marshall on Nov. 22.

The Tigerhawks trailed by just two at halftime before being outscored 29-22 in the second half. Colfax-Mingo was outscored 18-9 in the fourth quarter.

Junior Mac Brown led the Tigerhawks with 12 points and four rebounds. Junior Payton Rhone scored 10 points, pulled down four rebounds and dished out two assists, senior McKeely Tjaden pulled down a team-high eight boards and scored seven points and junior Jordan Atwood tallied six points and four rebounds.

Junior Camilla Schlosser scored a career-high eight points and blocked two shots. Junior Delaney Underwood finished with two steals.

Olivia Terrones led the Mustangs (1-0) with a game-high 16 points and nine assists. Tylyn Eicher tallied 15 points and Emily Terrones had six assists and four steals.

East Marshall hit 22-of-45 from the floor and out-rebounded the Tigerhawks 43-29.

The Tigerhawks (0-1) began South Iowa Cedar League play against HLV on Nov. 28 in Victor. They host Class 1A No. 9 Montezuma at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1.
